ESCAPE FROM BABYLON - MARTHA VELEZ LP: Sire CD: WEA 1975 Produced by Bob Marley and Lee Perry |
|
Martha Velez was a young American singer who travelled to Jamaica and became a protege of Bob Marley. With the Wailers as a backing band, Marley and Scratch collaborated to produce this very polished reggae album - more Marley than Scratch, but noteworthy nonetheless. The standout track is Velez' remake of "Get Up Stand Up", which takes on a new vibe due to Velez' gorgeous voice and the organ-driven arrangement. Hard to find, but worth looking for. Most of the material was also released on CD as Angels Of The Future/Past. |
