MUSICAL BONES - THE UPSETTERS LP: DIP DLP6000 CD: Justice League JLCD5002 1975 |
Musical Bones was originally released in 1975 with no track listing and limited to only a few hundred copies. It's part of a mid-70s Upsetter trilogy that includes Kung Fu Meets The Dragon and Return Of Wax. Fans are usually divided over Musical Bones: they either love it or think it's boring. This is really a reggae jazz album, with trombone king Vin Gordon doing great riffs over various Black Ark rhythms, and the overall mood is one of a jam session. The album was re-released on CD in 1998 with a few bonus dub tracks, including the wonderful "Bredda's Dub", which is not so much a dub but an alternate version of "Brotherly Love" by the Jolly Brothers.
