Bogus Lee Perry releases This is...upsetting! Over the years, many weakhearts and pirates have released crummy collections of reggae and dub and hope to make a quick buck by putting Lee Perry's name on the cover. These bogus releases range from low quality collections of actual Scratch productions to music that has absolutely nothing to do with Lee Perry. Thankfully, over the years most of these titles have faded from sight, but you still see a few of them now and again. To help defeat the pirates who are responsible for this ginal business, this is a list of releases which are considered bogus, with brief notes for each. Needless to say, don't buy them. |

BASHMENT A lame collection of late 60s and early 70s Scratch productions, most likely stolen from Trojan collections. While this actually is music produced by Lee Perry, the dubious nature of the Hudson Vandam label makes this one to avoid. |

BLACK ARK ALMIGHTY DUB CHAPTER 3 CD: Starlight Three or four Scratch dubs + a bunch of mediocre filler = Black Ark Almighty Dub Chapter 3. |
![]() |
BLACK ARK IN DUB CD: Lagoon This collection is about 50% Black Ark dubs, 50% bogus. Dubious titles cast doubt on their validity eg) "Rasta Man" is a butchered version of "Open The Gate", "Loving" is a dub of George Faith's "Guide Line" with weirdo effects thrown in. |

BLOOD VAPOUR CD: Unknown Unbelievable that this bogus collection has been around for about 10 years. Mostly King Tubby dubs with silly new titles. |
![]() |
More like Rhino & The Weakhearts Annoy Lee Perry & His Fans. |
![]() |
DUB NET PHILOSOPHY CD: Photophon Most of Black Ark Almighty Dub Chapter 3 with some tracks duplicated and given different titles. |
![]() |
As Ken Boothe says, "oh no, oh no, not in that old fashioned way"! |
![]() |
More like Dubious Treasures: very few of the tracks here are actually from the Black Ark, they are not rare, and they have all been remixed in a clumsy effort to sound like Lee Perry dubs. |
![]() |
Like other Orange Street Scratch releases, this at least contains some of Scratch's work, but with changed titles and further weird remixing. |
![]() |
Well, if by "essential" they mean "has absolutely nothing to do with Lee Perry", then yes, this is essential Lee Perry! |
![]() |
More like Eternal Flubs. Anything on the Abraham label is to be avoided. |
![]() |
No glory here: more or less a rehashed version of the already bogus Black Ark Almighty Dub Chapter 3. |
![]() |
This is actually a bootleg of a Carl Harvey album called Ecstacy Of Mankind. Kind of cool, but it's not Upsetting. |
![]() |
Not a single note of Lee Perry music. Those Delta guys really piss me off (see Music For Ever below). |
![]() |
While I have never heard this one, it looks like a dog's breakfast of actual and bogus Scratch productions with crazy new titles. And what is with that cover? Looks like someone puked in Photoshop. |
![]() |
The hold of death should be put on whoever came up with this one. |
![]() |
I'd like to introduce a crummy bootleg of the Lord God Muzick album with new titles and a re-arranged track listing. |
![]() |
Most likely none of this involves either Lee Perry or Mad Professor. |
![]() |
Actually, I would be more interested in seeing Lee Perry and Mad Professor meeting the head of Culture Press in a dark alley. |
![]() |
Too bad this is bogus, since I love the title. |
![]() |
A dubious collection of Gregory songs, only a few of which were produced and/or recorded by Scratch at the Black Ark. Almost all of the songs are mistitled, and the majority of them are taken from the Extra Classic album, produced by Pete Weston. Don't bother with this one - go for the Trojan reissue of Extra Classic. |

Ha! The name of the label says it all. Lick not this Lickshot! |
![]() |
MAD ALIEN DUB A weird and bogus collection of Lee Perry dubs with weird remixing, most likely sourced from other CDs featured on this page. |
![]() |
The album I love to hate! This bogus Lee Perry CD stands out above all the rest. Not only does it contain zero Scratch music, but has interview quotes and other text stolen from this website. 1000% bullshit. |

More like Presenting Shite. |

This one must be classified as only "semi-bogus". Many of the tracks are mislabelled, and some are duplicated, but all are actual Scratch productions. All tracks are available on more bonafide collections, so don't waste your time with this one or with anything on the Abraham label. |
![]() |
Well of course this is Reggae Worst, dished up by Vulture Press. Half Scratch, half bogus. |
![]() |
Another crummy bootleg of Lord God Muzick. Niney must be vex! |
![]() |
This falls into the "bogus, but I can live with it" pile. This is a CD issue of the 1975 LP, and while sound quality is fine, the dubious nature of the Orange Street label makes this one to avoid. Look for the original vinyl, or pick up Trojan's nice Dub Triptych set, which contains all of Revolution Dub. |

For some reason, there have been a few bogus collections that mainly feature tracks from the Return Of The Super Ape album and some odd filler; this is one of them. |
![]() |
This should have been called King Tubby Vs. I Roy, because that's what it is. These are all Tubby dubs of Bunny Lee productions, all given dubious new titles. This cheap collection might have been worthwhile for some hard to find I Roy tunes, but many of them have been slowed down for some bizarre reason. |
![]() |
As with Delta's other Scratch releases, A Serious Dub should not be taken seriously at all. |
![]() |
Varese give us another bogus dub collection, this time consisting of more King Tubby dubs with new titles. |
![]() |
Skanking with the Upsetter, indeed. See this article for the lowdown. |
![]() |
This album should really be called Sinking Sand. The story goes that Mikey Brooks approached Tabou 1 with a set of "long lost" Black Ark recordings from 1976. They were, in fact, a set of crudely edited Black Ark rhythms with new vocals by Brooks. When Tabou 1 found out they had been swindled, they had the good sense to quickly delete the album. |

This 14-track collection recycles many of the songs which are the usual suspects on bogus Scratch releases, including "Irie Irie" by The Originals and "I Am I Said" by Bunny Rugs. While most of these tunes are actual Scratch productions, it clearly belongs in the bogus category. |

Yeah, right. |

Rhino UK get an F for this one. Class dismissed! |
