SCRATCH ATTACK! CD: RAS CTCD1415 1990 |
Scratch Attack! is a really interesting and somewhat obsolete collection. This CD is a combo of two old Clocktower LPs, Scratch And Company and their dubious release of the epic Blackboard Jungle Dub. I say "dubious", since the original song titles and artist names have all been changed. For instance, "Little Flute Chant" is credited to Brad Osbourne & The Towerchanters; in fact, Osbourne was the head of Clocktower Records and the band is really The Upsetters. Blackboard Jungle Dub has since been re-released as part of Trojan's Dub Triptych set and Auralux's excellent Upsetters 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle, so there are better choices for this material . Scratch And Company is available on its own. So while all of the music is quite excellent, overall this release is quite problematic. With that reggaeology out of the way, everything on Scratch Attack! is heavy duty, experimental dub from Scratch's secret laboratory. Everything from the Blackboard Jungle half is quite mind-blowing, and the first half of the album (Scratch And Company) is moody, dubwise greatness. Recommended, but keep in mind that there are better sources for most of this material. For reference purposes, here is an annotated track listing for Scratch Attack! based on the original LP listings: Scratch And Company: See also Upsetters 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle, Blackboard Jungle and Scratch And Company. |
