Cheating - Earl Sixteen

Earl Daley – better known as Earl Sixteen – recorded four songs for Lee Perry, but only two were released: the driving "Freedom" and the haunting love song "Cheating".

"Cheating" is a tale of regret and heartbreak, a gorgeous love song that stands apart from the deep roots music that Scratch was producing at the time, along with songs like "Talk About It" by the (Mighty) Diamonds and "Groovy Situation" by Keith Rowe. The Upsetter mix (CHEATING) is different than the Upsetters mix (RRS 4429) which was released the same year.

It's a shame that Sixteen never cut an album with Scratch, and it's amazing that this song has never found its way on to a Trojan or Pressure Sounds CD.
