Dread At The Control - Mikey Dread
Michael Campbell, better known as Mikey Dread, is well known to reggae fans for his distinctive voice and far out dub tracks.
As a radio DJ, Mikey quickly made friends in the Kingston music scene in the late 1970s. After cutting some records with his pal Carlton Patterson for his Black And White Label ("Love The Dread" and the famous "Barber Saloon"), Mikey went to the Black Ark and recorded more than 10 tracks in DJ style over some choice Black Ark rhythms. Sadly, only three have seen the light of day: "Home Guard", "School Girl" and "Dread At The Control" (AKA "Dread At The Mantrols").
Over a reworked "Dreadlocks In Moonlight" rhythm, Mikey playfully dismisses Babylon propaganda and asserts himself as the "dread at the mantrols".
